In India, freshwater pearl farmers typically use mussels of the species Lamellidens Marginalis and Lamellidens Corrianus for pearl cultivation. These mussels are found in rivers and lakes throughout the country. The process of pearl farming takes anywhere from 18 to 24 months, depending on the desired size and quality of the pearl.
